The Best American Short Stories series, published annually by Houghton Mifflin, is one of the most successful collections of short stories ever published. For the new millennium Houghton Mifflin enlisted the editorial services of best-selling author John Updike, and began the Best American Short Stories of the Century. The book is a celebration of some of the greatest writing to come out of the United States in the last 100 years.
