Author Queries

 


Author Queries (AQs) are used just like query tags and marginal notes on paper. A query to the author can be inserted at any place in the document, including within embedded notes.

Inserting An Author Query

  1. Place the insertion point where you want to insert the query.

  2. Open the Author Query dialog by pressing Alt + A or pressing the Author Query button on the toolbar Generate/AQbtn2.jpg

  3. The Author Query dialog appears:

  5. Type your query to the author.

  6. Press OK - the query is inserted in the document.

  7. Generate/HAND.gif    Tip: If you want to include text from the manuscript in the query, select the text, then press Alt+A or the Author Query button on the toolbar. The selected text will appear in the Author Query dialog.

    Hiding and Showing Author Queries While You Edit

  1. Open the View Options dialog by pressing the view button on the toolbar, Generate/UIViewBtn2.jpg.

  2. Check the Show Editor Notes and Author Queries check box to show author queries, uncheck the box to hide them.

  4. Press OK to close the view options dialog.

  5. Editing an Author Query

  1. Make sure that Show Editor Notes and Author Queries is checked in the View Options.

  2. Place the insertion point anywhere in between the Author Query Marks.

  4. Open the Author Query dialog by pressing Alt + A or pressing the Author Query button on the toolbar .

  5. The author query dialog opens and the current query text can be edited.

  6. Make your changes to the query.

  7. Press OK.

  8. Deleting a Single Author Query

  1. Make sure that Show Editor Notes and Author Queries is checked in the View Options.

  2. Place the insertion point anywhere in between the Author Query Marks.

  3. Open the Author Query dialog by pressing Alt + A or pressing the Author Query button on the toolbar .

  4. Click the Delete this Author Query option.

  5. Press OK.

  6. Deleting All Author Queries

  1. Open the Author Query dialog by pressing Alt + A or pressing the Author Query button on the toolbar.

  2. Click the Delete ALL Author Queries option.

  3. Press OK.

  4. All author queries will be deleted and you will be in Normal View. To switch back to page view Open the View Options dialog and select the Page View option in the Document View section.

  5. Finding Author Queries in a Manuscript

  1. Open the Author Query dialog by pressing Alt + A or pressing the Author Query button on the toolbar.Generate/AQbtn2.jpg

  2. Click Find Author Query, the standard Word find dialog box opens and is set to find author queries.

  3. Click Find Next.

  4. Generate/HAND.gif    Tip: after clicking the Find Next button once you can then close the Find dialog and use the Ctrl + Page Down keys to continue to find more author queries.

    Printing Author Queries in Manuscript Text

    Author queries (and editor notes) that appear in line with manuscript text can be printed as they appear or extracted to a separate file. See TNTDocPrint for more information.
